LETTER OF COOPERATION PROPOSAL
To our Vietnamese friends,
We, the West Philippine Sea Coalition, who calls and organizes the global day of Philippine protests against Chinese aggressive policy in our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), would like to convey our most amicable salutation to you – the Vietnamese people who share our concern about Chinese provocative behavior in the Southeast Asian waters.
As you may already know, Chinese foreign policy and acts in the Southeast Asian waters have seriously infringed upon the legitimate interests of the Philippines as well as other nations in the region, including Vietnam. The policy that China pursues is a serious violation of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, to which China, as well as Vietnam and the Philippines, are signatories.
Our people have consistently been of the opinion that we are against this policy of China, and we will keep defending our maritime sovereignty over the islands and the sea that belong to us under international law.
We call on you, our Vietnamese friends, with your history of sovereignty defense, to stand by the Filipinos in a joint effort, based on international legal standards, to protect the interests of the two peoples against the aggressive China.
We are completely aware that the Vietnamese and the Filipinos both have a long history of amity and cooperation with China, and we are not against the Chinese people. We are against the Chinese government's lawless policy in the Southeast Asian Sea.
Together we stand, and more effectively we will defend our territorial integrity.
